New Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 (IRR17)
New Ionising Radiation Regulations
Here at BCF Technology we like to ensure all our customers are up to date with the current radiation standards, and we always want to promote best practice and safe working at all times.
From the 1st January 2018 the new Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017(IRR17) will come into force, and these may impact the way in which veterinary practices work.
The main changes are to:
-how you tell HSE that you work with ionising radiation
-the dose limit for exposure to the lens of the eye – reduced from 150mSv to 20mSv in a year
Vet Practices are required immediately to renotify the Health and Safety Executive that you are using Ionising Radiation, (all forms of X-rays). This must be done by 5th February- this is even if you have previously notified them.

On the above page you will also find a link to renotify the HSE via their webpage.
Please ask your RPA how the other changes may affect you, the new regulations also include a large decrease in the allowable dose to the human eye, and this may require additional personal protective equipment to be purchased.
