Spotlight on Women in IMV imaging: Celebrating International Women's Day
As part of our spotlight on women in IMV imaging for International Women’s Day, we’re excited to share a special interview with Katie, one of our fantastic team members. Join us as we learn about Katie’s journey from Warehouse department to her current role in finance. Let’s dive in and get to know Katie a little better!
Hey Katie, as we’re delving into International Women’s Day, could you share a bit about your journey here at IMV imaging?
I joined the business in 2016 after completing an apprenticeship in the warehouse, where I worked in the goods in, goods out department. Later, I began assisting in the procurement department one day a week, gaining valuable experience there. When the Finance department needed support, I started helping there as well. Subsequently, the finance manager at the time, Caralynne, offered me the opportunity to transition into a full-time position in Finance. Since then, I have worked in the Finance department as a Finance assistant. Gaining knowledge from various experiences in different departments has been beneficial, from selecting parts for customer kits to procurement and now Finance, where I handle billing and payments. Understanding the intricacies of our systems has proven invaluable in my current role
What were some of the highlights and challenges along the way?
When I first started in the warehouse, learning all the different parts and their corresponding numbers was challenging. However, over time, I managed to familiarise myself with the warehouse layout and part numbers. Working in procurement allowed me to build relationships with suppliers, which was a highlight for me. Transitioning into Finance was a significant change as I was no longer constantly on my feet. Learning Finance was a challenge, but with the support of the team and Kirstine, who has been a great mentor, I adapted quickly. While transitioning into a new department can be challenging, I’ve found my place within the Finance department and am grateful for the opportunity Caralynne saw in me.
What motivated you to transition into Finance from your previous role?
Initially, I began helping in Finance, which led to a natural progression into the role. It felt like a good fit for me, and I was excited about the opportunity for something different. After spending a few years in the Warehouse department, I was ready for a change, and Finance presented a new challenge. When Caralynne offered me the chance to move full-time, I was eager to embrace it. I enjoy the variety of tasks in Finance, such as interacting with customers and being part of a team.
Looking at the big picture, what do you enjoy most about working at IMV imaging?
I appreciate the opportunities for growth and development within IMV imaging. Working in different departments has allowed me to develop my skills and progress to my current position in Finance. There are lots of opportunities for advancement and professional development, such as the chance to undertake accountancy exams and participate in the future leadership development course. Additionally, I value the relationships I’ve built with my colleagues over the seven years I’ve been here. IMV imaging was my first proper job after school, and it has allowed me to push myself and grow both personally and professionally. Seeing Caralynne progress from Finance Manager to Finance Director has been inspiring and demonstrates the potential for growth within the company.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, what message would you like to share with other women in the workforce? Any words of wisdom or encouragement based on your own experiences here at IMV imaging?
Take every opportunity that comes your way because you never know where it might lead. When I started my apprenticeship in the warehouse, I never imagined I would end up in a Finance role. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had here at IMV imaging, and I encourage others to be open to trying new things and seizing opportunities for growth and development.
