Short free ‘how-to’ video series giving an introduction to ultrasonography of the equine mare’s reproductive tract.The videos, by BCF in-house vets Holly Johnson MRCVS and Rachel Marshall BVM&S MRCVS , give an excellent ‘step-by-step’ guide to scanning the mare reproductive tract.

The equipment used for this video series was the GE Logiq R7 and a linear rectal probe.

Video 1 – The uterus

In this first video of our four-part video series, we take a look at the appearance of the uterus, including the uterine body and both the left and right uterine horns.

Video 2 – The ovaries

In video two of the four-part series from BCF Technology we will look at the ovaries, including finding them and examining commonly found ovarian structures.

Video 3 – The early pregnancy (14-18 days)

In the penultimate video of the four-part series from BCF Technology we will look at finding and identifying an embryo. It is common practice to perform an initial pregnancy scan anywhere between 14 and 18 days following ovulation.

Video 4 – The early pregnancy (24-28 days)

In the final video of the four-part series from BCF Technology we will look at finding and identifying the later embryo and a heartbeat. It is common practice to perform a pregnancy scan anywhere from 24 days following ovulation to evaluate the pregnancy for a heartbeat and to confirm a viable pregnancy.
