About Sophie

Sophie qualified from the University of Nottingham in 2012. Following graduation, she completed an Internship and then a Residency at the Royal Veterinary College and a Masters in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health.

Sophie then spent several years as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Surrey vet school, covering production animal teaching across the curriculum. She became a European veterinary specialist (European College of Bovine Health Management) in 2018 and RCVS recognised specialist in 2019.

She is currently undertaking a PhD at the RVC, focused on calf health and housing.

What’s in the webinar?

In this practical and highly informative webinar, Sophie will detail how to perform thoracic ultrasound on farm and how to recognise the ultrasonographic appearance of normal lung anatomy. The changes caused by lung pathology will be discussed and Sophie will show the longer term effects of lung damage and how we can utilise ultrasound to aid decision making for both the individual calf and in the context of the wider farm population.

Bovine respiratory disease can lead to profound long-term effects on growth rate and future milk production.  The presentation will detail a systematic way to perform on farm thoracic ultrasound and how to interpret the findings in the context of both the individual and within the wider herd.
